Although it isn't really making money, finding ways to go out with the kids without spending money really helps with the finances.
Today I took the kids to a museum. Admittedly you do have to pay for a yearly ticket for 10 museums in the area, but I already had the ticket so the trip was free. It worked well as the kids were worn out and went to bed really well, and they all had a great time and it didn't cost me anything.

I always find that a trip to the park is a great free day out as well. A trip to the seaside is even better although we do have a car trip for that so have to pay for Petrol.
